Sketches Of Baby Grace Released For Recognition

In a bid to identify the child whose body was found stuffed into a storage bin found floating in Galveston Bay, Investigators on Friday released a sketch of a smiling blond-haired girl with gaps between her teeth.

Investigators also said Friday that a forensic dentist has determined the child was younger than first predicted and is between 2 and 3 years old, said Major Ray Tuttoilmondo with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Houston Police Department artist Lois Gibson drew two sketches. One is a close-up of the child and the other is of a young girl sitting and wearing a white T-shirt and a pink bolero-type jacket tied in the front with three-quarter-length sleeves. The girl, whose wavy hair went to the middle of her back, wore a layered broom skirt that matched her top.

The girl's tennis shoes were white and purple with pink flowers.

The shoes have Velcro straps and light up.

Since being discovered by a fisherman late Monday, investigators have called her Baby Grace.

The child is white, weighed between 25 and 30 pounds and stood about 32 to 35 inches tall.

Authorities have been inundated with calls since asking for the public's help on Thursday, Tuttoilmondo said.

"We are getting tips literally from all over the country," he said. "We're going through every single one. This tells me that people are concerned."

The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the child had been dead for at least two weeks and suffered from a skull fracture.

The cause of death has not been determined but authorities are treating the case as a homicide.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Texas EquuSearch will host a prayer vigil for Baby Grace at the Fat Boy's Bait & Tackle, 601 Jones Lake Road, in Galveston.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Galveston County Sheriff's Office at 409-766-2222 or 866-248-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
