Police issue letter bomb advice online

POLICE are warning people to be extra vigilant after the recent spate of letter bomb attacks.

There is no intelligence to suggest Hampshire is a target, but police are urging people to take extra care when handling mail.

Officers are in contact with local companies and businesses to provide advice on how to keep themselves safe.

Detective Superintendent Alan Betts, head of Hampshire Constabulary's Special Branch, said: 'Our message is be alert, not alarmed, and be cautious when handing incoming mail.

'We are working with local businesses and agencies to provide security advice, and the public can help themselves by just looking out for suspicious tell-tale signs as listed on our website.

'Anyone who receives a suspicious package should not attempt to open it under any circumstances and should immediately alert the police by calling 999.'
