Injury News Not Good For Colts

The health report was not good for the Indianapolis Colts 48 hours before Super Bowl kickoff.

Both starting cornerbacks missed practice today, right corner Jason David with an abdomen injury and left corner Nick Harper with a sprained ankle. Harper missed practice for a third straight day.

“We decided it didn’t make any sense for him to go out and try to practice today,” Colts coach Tony Dungy said. “We’ll wait to see how Nick feels on Sunday at the stadium.”

In addition, defensive end Robert Mathis, the Colts’ sack leader, left today’s workout with back spasms. Dungy also gave safety Bob Sanders and guard Ryan Lilja the day off because of minor ailments.

Harper’s injury is by far the most serious. If he can’t go he would be replaced by second-year player Kelvin Hayden, a former second-round draft pick out of Illinois.

The Colts play the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI Sunday at Dolphin Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:25 p.m. CST, with CBS-TV carrying the game.
